After ANALUA, a book about a girl with autism spectrum
disorder, Marilia Pirillo tells the sweet story of a girl raised by
her grandmother. It is, as the author says, an autobiographical
book, written by someone who describes herself as a ‘grandma’s
daughter’: “My desire is that we could expand our understanding
that family ties are not necessarily blood ties, but also ties of
affection. And these can be built and cultivated based on love and
on an adult’s attentive and caring presence in a child’s life.”
Marilia Pirillo was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, in 1969. As
a girl, she was shy, had few friends and, to make up for her loneliness,
she would spend a lot of her time in the school library. That is
how she became interested in the book world. To this day she has
illustrated more than 60 books and is the writer of many others
